It was a trade that involved six players, but really, only two mattered. When the Toronto Maple Leafs and Quebec Nordiques exchanged former first overall picks Wendel Clark (1985) and Mats Sundin (1989), Leaf fans were torn. On one hand they were sending away Clark, their beloved captain who had just led the team to back-to-back conference finals. But on the other hand, they were acquiring Sundin, a player who had cracked the 100-point barrier in 1992-93. The trade worked out well for Toronto as Sundin went on to captain the club for 10 seasons and left as the team’s all-time leading scorer.
